The Santo Domingo project is looking for partners.

Following the recent fall in energy prices and optimism surrounding the price of copper, Capstone Mining has embarked on the search for partners for its Santo Domingo project, as construction will begin during the second half of 2020.

«We have been successful in obtaining local and national permits, as well as Environmental Assessment Approval (RCA). The only pending permit is the closure plan, which we hope to obtain by the end of the year, then everything will be ready to begin construction,» said the CEO, Mr. Darren Pylot.

The executive referred to the imminent sale of a 30% interest in the project by the Korean company Kores, and added that the incoming partner must be willing to invest 50% of the US$1.5B required for the initiative.

According to forecasts, the mine is expected to come into operation in October 2022, and produce 200,000t of copper concentrate and 4Mton of iron concentrate with a useful life of 18.5 years.

Capstone is also evaluating cobalt production from the Santo Domingo project.
