About the workshop
Volcanology and phreatomagmatism applied to exploration of epithermal systems.
This workshop is focused on providing an update on the basic knowledge of field volcanology, effusive and explosive eruptive processes and fragmentation mechanisms. Emphasis will be placed on phreatomagmatic processes and the facies and structures associated with maar-diatreme systems. These concepts will be linked to HS-type epithermal alteration processes, with examples from Chile, Argentina and Peru, with special attention to the types of brecciation and the description and classification of clastic rocks present in these systems, in order to understand the distribution and geometry of volcanic structures and their control in the circulation of hydrothermal fluids.
This course is especially aimed at professionals dedicated to the exploration, exploitation and modeling of resources in volcanic environments.

Presenter
Geologist and Master of Science from the University of Chile, Philosophy Doctor in Volcanology from the University of Bristol-UK, with more than 30 years of work and academic experience in regional geology, geological hazards, geothermal exploration and epithermal exploration in volcanic environments, among others. In recent years he has worked as Senior Geologist at Amawta Geoconsultores, where he has developed geological and volcanic facies models applied to epithermal exploration in the Central Andes (Chile, Peru and Argentina) and Mexico, as well as geological hazards in Climate Change scenarios in Chile. He has a relevant and permanent experience in teaching and research (Sernageomin, U. de Chile, U. Católica, U. Mayor) and in collaboration with several foreign universities and research centers (USA, France, Switzerland, Italy, Canada, UK, Argentina, among others). He has guided more than 25 undergraduate and graduate theses in Chile and abroad, he is author and co-author of more than 30 scientific papers published in national and foreign journals, more than 90 abstracts presented (talks, posters and invited talks) in national and international congresses; author and co-author of 15 geological and volcanic hazard maps of the National Service of Geology and Mining (Chile) and SEGEMAR (Argentina), among other publications.
